Hello! My name is Maya and I’m excited to meet you.
I’m a photographer and doula based in Vancouver, BC, on the unceded lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil- Waututh Nations. I’m currently writing my thesis as I finish a Masters in Public Health, focusing my research on the accessibility of breastfeeding/chestfeeding resources in the Vancouver area.
I’ve worked as a photographer for the past 10 years, but more recently expanded my practice and found my true passion in birth photography. I spent a year working in a birthing centre in New Zealand which was a dream job. Throughout my time there I became comfortable in the birthing space and expanded my knowledge on how to support people as they move through the beautiful transition into parenthood. I can also make myself discreet if you’re feeling uncomfortable having new people in your birthing space. One of the best compliments I’ve received as a birth photographer is my client looking over once baby was comfortably skin to skin and saying, “You were so great, I didn’t even realize you were here!”
Outside of school and photography, I am an avid hiker and rock climber. I also knit and sew most of my own clothes and am always experimenting with fibre arts and textile.
If you’re interested in getting in touch and setting up a meeting, please feel free to contact me and I’ll get back to you quickly! I’m looking forward to getting to know you and your family.
